I went to Kisumu with EatOut Kenya on assignment for Yummy Magazine for a little over a day and a half, the flight to Kisumu was one of the most breathtaking flights i've been on in a while! The main reason being that I haven't actually travelled to these parts of Kenya before, or at least recently enough to remember that clearly. And glancing out of my little aeroplane window, I was instantly overwhelmed by the continuing complexity of our rich diverse land, and towards the end, I found myself floating above and completely surrounded by a bright green sea of luscious green hills. This again just showing me how Kenya always has a way of taking my breath away!

I left nairobi at sunrise, being waved off by the pink coloured rising sky coating the planes neatly parked around me and landed in a wonderful misty new city waiting to be discovered.

I Got to Acacia premier hotel; a beautiful modernly set hotel situated along the shores of Lake Victoria, a sight I was lucky to behold every morning as I gazed out from my bedroom window. Good security, state of the art systems, wonderful decor, yummy food and very friendly staff. I was more than happy to call Acacia premier hotel my home for my very short stay.
A special shout out to my hilarious and kind Driver Dan, who complemented my trip with his many adventurous folk tales that he was always eager to share.

Ok. So the foodie that we all know I am, was incredibly excited (and I wont lie, a bit hesitant due to the overall presentation of the dish) to try the whole fried Tilapia at Lwang'ni beach hotel, which was a first for me. Hesitation shoved aside, I took the plunge and bit into the whole fried fish, let me tell you... it was absolutely delicious! Along with different accompaniments, I chose to have mine simply with kachumbari and Ugali, all enjoyed while sitting upstairs with a lovely view of the lake and the wonderful company of Dan.

Driving through Kisumu town was to me like driving through Mombasa, but 100 times cleaner. A reminder of how much beauty is lost to neglect and destruction. Infact Kisumu is so clean, the rest of kenya should take note!

There is so much that I wasn’t able to see or do because of the lack of time, but i'm already planning my trip back. And on my Kisumu to-do list would be to check out The Impala sanctuary, hop on a Lake Victoria boat ride to see the hippos, try out the different foods and restaurants, and see what the night life has to offer.
